All the transactions and communications in the world have become easy and faster with the Internet. Most of the harder problems and time consuming problems can be easily solved through the Internet. Technical education in our country is becoming increasingly aware of the need for a more cost effective and efficient manner for delivering services to staff, students and affiliates. This need forces technical colleges to consolidate the data management systems. This report proposes an Online Student Information and Management System (OSIMS) for Kandy technical college, to facilitate online access for the students, parents, administrators and other relevant institutions. The system provides convenient ways for all students to search information about different courses. The system also enables students to register course online from anywhere. If a student has enrolled in the Technical College, the student or his parent can login to the system with student id and password, and then check courses, time tables and grade/exam results he or she has taken. The administrators can operate the system. Any request for information or records can be processed very quickly since the information has been stored in a systematic way. The system facilitates to update the student's information, like adding a grade, changing password, address, phone number and email account and cancellation of the registration. Comparing to the existing manual system, this system offers advantages of reducing duplication of information in systems, keeping more complete and correct records about persons and organizations, reducing errors during the entry of information, sharing information confidentially, providing efficient usage of physical storage space and getting up-to-date information about students to be processed very quickly. It improves the ability to communicate via electronic means rather than being bounded to one physical location. I wish this system will facilitate smooth functioning of administrative and academic aspects of the college and believe effective dissemination of information through this system will immensely help to improve the quality and productivity of the college.en-USComputer sciencesInformation technologyCommunicationInternet problemManagement systemOnline student information and management systemDesign and development of an online student information and management system for college of technology, KandyThesis
