Unfortunately a very little knowledge is available about pollution of ground water resources in Batticaloa district. A blue print of well water quality and identification of pollutants are necessary for taking appropriate action to avoid the ground water pollution. Physical and chemical analysis were carried out to identify the levels of ground water pollution in Batticaloa district and the results were reported. The results of physico - chemical variables in this analysis have been compared with those of Sri Lanka Standards (SLS) and those of World Health Organisation (WHO). The results revealed that the ground water in Kaluthawalai agricultural area is Polluted by the agricultural waste and the leaching of nutrients and the ground water in Batticaloa town is polluted by various human activities, Alsoresults elucidate that the ground water from all the sampling stations can generally be considered suitable for drinking, irrigation and industrial uses.en-USEnvironmental ChemistryWater polutionGround water polution in BatticaloaThesis
