- ItemLibrary management system in Tamil using barcode(The University of Peradeniya, 2009) Johnson, S.The Research work presented in this project aims to provide evolution of technology in the management of a noncirculating library collection in an academic library. Noncirculating collections, such as reference collections, require special handling and record keeping, and their usage cannot be tracked through the library's circulation system. This Research work traces the evolution of technology in the management of a reference collection that has been maintained manually with a card shelf list and a separate card file for records for binding and other processing. Language barrier present a major problem in the effectiveness of resource sharing and in common access to the resources of library. Its main features include functions for searching in Tamil language using Barcode Reader and localization of the user interface. In order to achieve this, Management procedures are automated with database management and Visual Basic software and with a portable barcode reader for tracking and reshelvings This system will help any reference to get quick result. By just scanning the BarCodeID, one can save the transaction for book current status or apply for check book or member details.
- ItemMobile appication for academic library services(2009) Adikari, A. B.Mobile phone usage has changed the most of the activities of day to day lives in many ways. Use of the mobile phone has not been limited only as a communication device between two intended parties. It has been extended as a device to surf internet, as a convenient medium for advertising, and also to carryout essential transactions. This is due to the popularity and the convenience experienced by the users as well as the service providers of the services mentioned above. The proposed. project focuses on mobile application facilitating the library users. The project is been built to provide the functionalities of book search, checking overdue, fines, and renewals and also as a communicating medium of special events proceeding in the library. Furthermore, this caters the mobile phone users in two ways; WAP site for WAP users and Embedded SMS service for non-WAP users with mobile phones with limited facilities. Open Source Library software has been integrated to obtain the core library functionalities, and has been extended to support the mobile application based on the project scope. This document contains all the details from the initiation to the conclusion of this project.
