Abstract
This project was undertaken by the necessity of the seriousness of the problem which prevails among the students who begin to study Chemistry in their G.C.E. A/L. The research was targeted to find the causes for their failure to obtain high grades in Chemistry at their G.C.E.A/L though they had obtained high grades in Science at their O/L.
The tasks in this project comprised visits to a few selected schools of different nature and locality, purview of the performances of students recorded in their results sheets, marks schedules, assessments, assignments, practicals and the students involved, view of facilities available at the school and at the environment to the students to enrich their knowledge in science.
The limit of the knowledge a student is expected to acquire in Chemistry in G.C.E. O/L was carefully assessed. The required limit of knowledge to tackle A/L Chemistry was also surmised. The enormity of the gap has been brought to light. The causes for this mishap have been depicted. The remedies to overcome the shortcomings have been suggested.
