Abstract

The study examined the preparation of a teaching-learning material on water pollution. Fresh water is one of our most important natural resources because it is needed for survival, %. and there is no substitute for it. Nevertheless, water pollution has become one of the major environmental problems. A section on water pollution is included under the unit of Man and Environment in the Advanced Level syllabus. It was related to the national goal of competencies ielating to the environment. Although the syllabus of the G.C.E.(A/L) is vast which needs to be covered within a stipulated period, a teacher has a much wider role to play. In addition to knowing the concepts and procedures in academic discipline, teacher should know how to transfer their knowledge into curriculum, lessons and other activities of teaching to engage students in active discussion. Unit plan may help the teacher to design her/his lessons properly. Unit planning is important in all school subjects, but it is especially important in chemistry. Unit plan is the conceptual net work which is the essence of the unit. There are two aims of this project. They are to prepare learning material on water pollution for the learners, and teaching material for teachers on water pollution. Unit planning is adopted to develop teaching methods and materials on water pollution.
