Abstract
Automated data processing has become an important aspect of our everyday life. The web based information management systems brought a new era for our education system. Web based information management system is the integration of computer technology and the server with school management. The Zonal Education Office needs printed materials, which will support the day to day activities.
Currently Sri Lankan education system is fully managed by humans than new technologies . It results in high cost of transport, time consumption and it is difficult to take immediate action on urgent matters in school management and staff management. The objective of this study is to implement a web based information management system which is suitable for zonal education offices in Sri Lanka.
Zonal Education Office - Kandy carries out its day to day academic activities using its legacy manual system. It has also been identified that the existing website needs to undergo modification in order to increase the current web ranking of the Zonal Education Office.
Therefore it has been proposed that the existing website of the Zonal Education office be replaced by a fully functional web-based information system to meet the requirements of the stakeholders of the Zonal Education office.
The proposed system was developed using a modern software development approach, and web development tools and technologies such as PHP , JavaScript, MySQL etc.
The system was tested with the help of a sample of stakeholders, and according to the feedback; the system meets their requirements and functions efficiently and reliably.
