A Correlation study on student achivements at grade five Scholarship examinition and G.C.E. ordinary level examinition

Abstract

It is essential that the key personnel directly engaged in the transaction process of the Sri Lankan education system especially in respect of the Government sector schools are processed with the comprehensive and content knowledge of the aspects of all schools in the country. This analysis is carried out to investigate the effect of student achievement in Grade 05 scholarship examination and G.C.E.Ordinary Level examination. This proposed study is mainly focused on the correlation analysis between grade 05 Scholarship Examination and G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination. Selected Educational Zones in Kandy district are as follows. 1. Gangawata Korela 2. Pathahewatte Korala. Circulated the prepared questionnaire to the students in the selected school in the selected educational zones and collected data. The collected data were analyzed by using Histogram, Anderson —Darling test, Pearson’s chi square test, Spearman rank correlation test, Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann Whitney test etc. Generally it was found that passing of Grade five Scholarship examination had a major effect on the passing rate of G.C.E. O/L examination (r = 0.759; p = 0.000 ) The techniques applied and the outcome generated in this survey could be extended to find the correlation study on student achievement at Grade 05 Scholarship Examination and G.C.E. O/L in the other parts of Sri Lanka too.
