Abstract
It has already been identified that an essential feature of the new millennium is to improve reading habits among G.C.E. (Advanced Level) students. The aims and objectives of this project are therefore made to provide this knowledge, especially in the field of chemistry. Also, this would create awareness among students on environmental issues and willingness to protect the environment. The above objectives are meant to be achieved by means of a supplementary textbook. The topic of the book is selected as AGROCHEMICALS after analyzing the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) chemistry syllabus, doing a survey among the students who sat for the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) examination from the Central Province, doing a survey among the farmers who cultivate vegetables in Nuwara Eliya, collecting data from the market and from the Registrar’s Office of the Pesticides of the Agriculture Department. Further, quantitative results on several pollutant parameters have been obtained by analyzing polluted water samples collected from the Greggory Lake, Nuwara Elya.
