The proportion of elderly in the world is growing at a phenomenal rate, causing a greater demand for healthcare services and devices that can extend the independent living of elders and promote improved health. Thus increased access to Assistive Technology (AT) is'seen as a cost-effective way of maintaining the health, independence and wellbeing of this growing population Assistive Technology refers to tools, equipment, or products that can help to an elder or a person with a disability to function successfully at home, work, and in the community. Assistive Technologies can help elders to function more easily in their everyday lives and can also make it easier for caregivers. "Assistive technologies" may be as simple as a magnifying glass to enhance visual perception or as complicated as a computerized communication system. It is important to note that the users' perceptions on AT is more likely to influence their willingness to accept AT interventions. However, there are some issues that can affect the acceptability of the devices. AT devices should not only be easy and convenient to use but also they should be reliable. Thus, the overall aim of this research is to design and develop an intelligent wearable assistive device, which is more practical, personalized, reliable and easy to use and tie in with the older people's environments and capable of informing any critical situation to their caregivers quickly.
