Supplementary book on common salt and petroleum refining industry for the G.C.E. advanced level students

Abstract

The aim of this project was to prepare a supplementary book on Common Salt and Petroleum Refining Industries, relevant to the Advanced Level Chemistry syllabus. The topic PetroleumRefining Industry which is included in this supplementary book is also relevant to the grade eleven Science and Technology students.

Data were collected by the form of questionnaires, observations and informal interviews. The questionnaire was analyzed in order to understand the background of the students’ knowledge on local chemical industries. Observations and informal interviews helped to get an idea about difficulties in the local chemical industries.

The techniques, methods and knowledge of the industries are changing very rapidly. Hence the current knowledge has to be made available to students and others. Therefore, current information on Common Salt and Petroleum Refining Industries are included in this book. The product of this project is the completed supplementary book. The book is comprised of two parts of which one is the Common Salt industry and the other part being Petroleum Refining Industry.

The book consists of four chapters. The introduction chapter discusses about the research survey and data analysis. The second chapter deals with the supplementary book part one, Common Salt Industry. It includes all salt productions, byproducts, advantages and disadvantages of this industry. The third chapter contains supplementary book part two, Petroleum Refining Industry. It includes different type of energy sources, petroleum refining process, advantages and draw backs of this industry. The fourth chapter contains the conclusion and suggestions.
