An E-Voting system is a voting system that allows voters to vote using electronic devices. Different E-Voting systems are used all around the world. Punch card system, optical scan method, Direct-Recording Electronic (DRE) method are some examples of them. Internet voting plays a major role in E-voting. Many countries use electronic voting systems but in Sri Lanka a manual system is used. This research work focuses on introducing a web based voting system for Sri Lanka. It introduces a computerized system which will minimize most of the draw backs of the existing manual system. All the requirements were identified and new algorithms were designed for validation, encryption and counting processes. When comparing with the manual system the new system will enhance the accuracy and generate results efficiently. Also this system will maintain the desired level of security and performance. This system was implemented using php and the database was developed using mysql. The security of the system was considered as a major factor. Finally the system was tested to ensure its accuracy. According to the test results the developed system proved the fulfillment of functional and nonfunctional requirements.
