Self learning study pack for G. C. E. (A/L) biology classes on plant - people relationships in Kandy city and suburbs

Abstract

Plants play a major role in providing enormous amount of its products for the wellbeing of the human community. Therefore better understanding of this indispensable resource is very essential for us to derive maximum benefit from it. This project was aimed to provide some useful details about the utilization of various plants in our day-to- day life. Particularly it was projected towards the A/Level Biology classes which expect the students to have a preliminary understanding of the economic uses of plants.

The data for this project was collected through a survey conducted among the teachers & students involved in the A/Level Biological studies and the plant related resource personals.

The data collected from the teachers and students revealed the necessity of further information regarding various uses of plants that are around us. To fulfil this requirement four illustrated handbooks and a CD were prepared as a self learning study pack for A/Level Biology classes including different uses of plants or plant materials with reference to Kandy city and suburbs.

This study pack is expected to help the teachers to guide the students more efficiently regarding this theme. Further it is hoped that this pack will not only increase the enthusiasm and curiosity of the students in searching for plants for their own living but also lead them to contribute in the self sustenance of the nation in future.
