A statistical analysis on teachers' awareness of the school based assessment programme

Abstract
This study is based on a survey, conducted on teachers of grades 6 to 9, in schools of Kandy district, regarding the School Based Assessment (SBA) programme. The objectives of this study are: i) to assess the extend to which, teachers have perceived the concept of School Based Assessment programme ii) to find out the problems teachers encounter in the implementation of the SBA programme, and iii) to suggest appropriate steps that should be taken to overcome the problems in (ii) in order to implement the programme successfully. The data were collected through the views held by the teachers in answering a common questionnaire pertaining to the SBA programme. The techniques used to analyze the data were: i) Categorical data analytic techniques. ( Analysis of Two-way as well as Multi-way contingency tables, Binary data analytic techniques ) ii) Non-parametric data analytic techniques. ( Wilcoxon Rank sum test, Kruskal Wallis One-way ANOVA test, Friedman’s test, Page’s test, Kendall’s Tau correlation coefficient and Kendall’s Tau Partial correlation coefficient ) For the purpose of statistical analysis, SAS and MINITAB statistical computer software packages were used. This project was carried out to meet the urgent requirement of a study to assess the feasibility of the implementation of the SBA programme under the proposed educational reforms.
