Investigation on the extent of population of the Kallar lake

Abstract

This project was carried out to find out the extent of pollution of Kallar Lake. This project was carried out from November 2003 to January 2004. Although Kallar lake area is used for fishing, bathing and recreational activity, the garbage from the Periakallar, Koddaikallar and Onthachimadam are being dumped along the bank of the lake for several years and therefore the area appears as garbage dumping ground. The extent of pollution has been measured along with some important physical and chemical parameters. The influence of nitrogen and phosphorous on algal blooming and eutrophication in the lagoon also identified during this study.
