Abstract
The Research work presented in this project aims to provide evolution of technology in the management of a noncirculating library collection in an academic library. Noncirculating collections, such as reference collections, require special handling and record keeping, and their usage cannot be tracked through the library's circulation system. This Research work traces the evolution of technology in the management of a reference collection that has been maintained manually with a card shelf list and a separate card file for records for binding and other processing. Language barrier present a major problem in the effectiveness of resource sharing and in common access to the resources of library. Its main features include functions for searching in Tamil language using Barcode Reader and localization of the user interface. In order to achieve this, Management procedures are automated with database management and Visual Basic software and with a portable barcode reader for tracking and reshelvings This system will help any reference to get quick result. By just scanning the BarCodeID, one can save the transaction for book current status or apply for check book or member details.
