Design and development of an information system for the Postgraduate Institute of Science, University of Peradeniya

Abstract

With a continuously growing student population consisting of both local and foreign students , the higher administration of the PGIS carry out its day to day student and other academic activities using its legacy manual system . It has also been identified that the existing website needs to undergo modification in order to increase the current web ranking of the PGIS . Thus it has been proposed that the existing website of the PGIS be replaced by a fully functional web-based information system to meet the requirements of the stakeholders of the PGIS. The proposed system was developed using a modern software development approach, and web development tools and technologies such as PHP, JavaScript, MySQL etc. The system was tested with the help of a sample of stakeholders and according to the feedback , the system meets their requirements and functions efficiently and reliably.
