Anthracnose is a highly destructive post-harvest disease of banana caused by the fungal pathogen The present study was conducted to determine the growth and morphological variations among ๐˜Š๐˜ฐ๐˜ญ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ต๐˜ฐ๐˜ต๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ค๐˜ฉ๐˜ถ๐˜ฎ spp. associated with anthracnose disease of banana. ๐˜ฎ๐˜ถ๐˜ด๐˜ข๐˜ฆ which were isolated from a range of banana cultivars showing typical anthracnose symptoms and collected from different locations were used for the study. Colony characteristics, growth rate, spore dimensions and sensitivity to fungicides (๐˜ช๐˜ฏ ๐˜ท๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ) were used to determine morphological variations of the fungal isolates. Out of the sixteen ๐˜Š๐˜ฐ๐˜ญ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ต๐˜ฐ๐˜ต๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ค๐˜ฉ๐˜ถ๐˜ฎ isolates, four isolates were identified as ๐˜Š. ๐˜จ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฐ๐˜ด๐˜ฑ๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ฐ๐˜ช๐˜ฅ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด and another four were identified as ๐˜Š. ๐˜ข๐˜ค๐˜ถ๐˜ต๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ถ๐˜ฎ based on colony and spore morphology. Colony growth rate was highly variable among the tested isolates of ๐˜Š๐˜ฐ๐˜ญ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ต๐˜ฐ๐˜ต๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ค๐˜ฉ๐˜ถ๐˜ฎ and the highest growth rate was shown by ๐˜Š. ๐˜ฎ๐˜ถ๐˜ด๐˜ข๐˜ฆ. Recommended dosage of the fungicide Homai (Thiophanate-methyl 50% + Thiram 30% WP) completely inhibited the mycelial growth of all isolates tested ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ ๐˜ท๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ. However, the recommended dosage of Daconil (Chlorothalonic 500g/L) did not completely control any of the isolates of ๐˜Š๐˜ฐ๐˜ญ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ต๐˜ฐ๐˜ต๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ค๐˜ฉ๐˜ถ๐˜ฎ tested under ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ ๐˜ท๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ conditions. The findings revealed that morphological and growth variations exist among the ๐˜Š๐˜ฐ๐˜ญ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ต๐˜ฐ๐˜ต๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ค๐˜ฉ๐˜ถ๐˜ฎ isolates recovered from anthracnose developed-banana fruits.
